The NASPA 2016 Conference in Indianapolis is an excellent opportunity to make professional connections and learn from other professionals in the student affairs and higher education field. Although you may be busy with conference activities, you shouldn’t miss out on the opportunity to explore Indianapolis.

Assuming that you won’t want to stray too far from the Indianapolis Convention Centre, I’ve looked into some fun things Indianapolis offers, that are within walking distance of the centre.

Circle Centre

If you want to do some shopping, grab something to eat or see a movie, you’ll want to go to the Circle Centre. The mall is a 4-minute walk from the Indianapolis Convention Centre and features over 100 stores and restaurants.

Indianapolis Cultural Trail

Stretch your legs between sessions by walking the 7.5 mile Indianapolis Cultural Trail. The trail connects pedestrians and bikers to many of the convention centre’s neighbouring amenities. And, if you don’t feel like walking the trail, you can always rent a bike from the Pacers Bikeshare program.

Indianapolis Zoo and White River Gardens

If you want to go on a longer, more scenic walk, then I suggest checking out the Indianapolis Zoo and White River Gardens. A 10-minute bus ride from the Indianapolis Convention Centre, the zoo and gardens includes an aquarium and roller coaster. Walk its 64 acres and meet 350 different animal species and over a hundred plant variety.
