This past month, OOHLALA team members had the opportunity to attend the EDUCAUSE conference in Anaheim, California. EDUCAUSE is the premier event for IT professionals in higher ed and ed-tech specifically.
Here are some of the highlights from the conference:
The Importance of Mobile Technology
As pressure mounts on communications, student affairs and other departments to increase student involvement and outreach, mobile platforms play a critical role in disseminating information to students.
Highlight Session: Oklahoma University builds OU-Bound app for helping incoming students navigate the early days of their college career.
Data Analytics is Going to be the Difference
Institutions that are using analytics to understand patterns and trends in student behaviour, learning outcomes and persistence will be able to take preemptive action to help their students.
Highlight Session: University of Maryland University College uses predictive analytics to understand and impact the full student experience, from scheduling the right classes to optimizing study times for students.
Information Security remains top IT issue, Student Success is a close second
The growth of phishing scams, DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attacks and information leaks has ensured that data security remains on top of the list for a another year. Student success enters the list this year as IT departments begin to play a greater role in supporting student success.
Highlight Session: EDUCAUSE will release the full list in January, but this EdTechMagazine interview sheds some light on some of the new issues in the list.
OOHLALA will be attending both the NASPA and ACPA Annual Conferences next year, so look forward to additional highlights from those in the future.
